Desert Imprint

Vision Gallery 10 E Chicago St, Chandler, AZ, United States

Where some may see desolation, many full-time desert dwellers see nature at its finest. Desert Imprint brings together the work of three local artists who view desert ecology as something to be admired. Experience reactions to local and far-flung flora and fauna in the wood-burning art of Alexandra Bowers, and photographs of J.W. Fike and Ryan Parra. Image: Ryan Parra, Eriogonum Fasciculatium, 2017. Things that Matter

Vision Gallery 10 E Chicago St, Chandler, AZ, United States

Opening Reception with the Artists: Saturday, November 17, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

31 fiber artists use their individual talents to let their voices be heard. They remind us that THIS thing, idea, place, or part of our world should not be forgotten or undefended when at risk from intolerance, ignorance, indifference, or greed. They offer us intuitive responses, sorrows, desires to right things, to protect what may be disappearing. And they offer hope, a tender need to call out to the world to remember precious things in life. The show previewed in April 2018 in San Diego, California before coming to Chandler, Arizona.

Art Quilts XXIII: Artistic Ecologies

The Gallery at CCA 250 North Arizona Avenue, Chandler, AZ, United States

Opening Reception with the artists: Saturday, November 17, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

Now in its twenty-third year, the Art Quilts exhibition at the Chandler Center for the Arts has grown from a regional quilt show to a respected vehicle for contemporary works. The exhibition draws entries from around the United States and Canada and allows thousands of visitors each year to experience quilting as an art form. This year’s juror is ASU Assistant Professor Erika Lynne Hanson, and the theme she has chosen is Artistic Ecologies. Starting with the definition of ecology as the interrelationship between any system and its environment, quilts in this exhibition will be inspired by the theme formally, conceptually, and narratively.
